Best Ways to Make Voiceovers for Instagram Reels
Four ways to add a voiceover to an Instagram Reel — in-app, on your phone, a voice artist or an AI voice — and when each one makes sense.

A voiceover turns a silent clip into a story, and on Reels it often decides whether people keep watching. There's no single best method — it depends on how often you post, whether you like your own voice on camera and how much time you have. Here are the four common options.
1. Record inside Instagram
The Reels editor lets you record a voiceover directly over your clip. It's free and fast for one-off posts. The downsides: background noise, re-recording the whole take for one mistake, and limited control over levels.
2. Record on your phone, edit separately
Recording in a quiet room with a voice-memo app (or a cheap clip-on microphone) and editing in a video editor gives cleaner sound and lets you cut mistakes. It takes longer, and your voice has to be up for it every time you post.
3. Hire a voice artist
For brand campaigns and ads, a professional voice artist brings real performance. It's the most expensive option and the slowest to change — every script edit is a new booking.
4. Use an AI voice
An AI voice generator turns your script into a voiceover in seconds and gives you the same voice on every Reel — useful for faceless accounts, tips series and product teasers. You can try two different hooks in the time it takes to record one, and change a single line without redoing the whole take.
Short-form audiences scroll fast. Put the hook in the first sentence, keep the script to about 40–150 words for a 15–60 second Reel, and try a slightly faster speed (around 1.05–1.1×).
How to make a Reel voiceover with MCV Labs
- Write the script: hook, one idea per sentence, a clear call to action.
- Preview the first line in two or three voices and pick one for the whole series.
- Choose an energetic style and generate.
- Download the MP3 and place it on your editor's timeline first, then cut the visuals to the voice.
- Add captions — many people watch Reels without sound.
Label AI voices
Instagram and Facebook have rules for labelling realistic AI-generated content, and our terms require telling listeners the voice is AI. Follow the platform's current policy when you post. Commercial use — for example a client's or your brand's account — needs a paid plan, subject to the voice licence.
